Mediation allows you to control the outcome
of your divorce. Mediators are neutral.
They do not represent either party. |

spouse retains their own attorney. Attorneys
must advocate zealously for their clients. |

Mediations are done in two sessions totaling
approximately four hours. The cost is typically
less than $1,000. There are no retainers
or prepayments: You pay at the time of each
session. |
In
the current legal system, each party retains
their own lawyer. In Michigan, individual
retainers are between $1,000 and $2,500
and may not be refundable. Costs of litigation
are in addition to the retainers and multiple
court appearances may be necessary. |

Mediation is done in a neutral setting with
the couple personally involved. This leads
to a fair settlement of issues of custody,
visitation, parenting, support and the equitable
division of property. |
When
litigated, divorces can become a hostile
and bitter way to end a marriage. |

Mediation is just that: all issues are settled
in private and all negotiations remain out
of the public view |
In
the present legal system, negotiations required
by the courts are not private, the mediators
may report to the court and make recommendations.
